N2 - If you ask education experts why the cost of secondary education is so high in the United States, one of the answers you will frequently get is that colleges are spending more than ever on ancillary services, such as "housing, meals, health care, and transportation." The data bear this out: In addition to spending more per capita on college education than virtually any other country, the United States spends "more than three times the average for the developed world" on ancillary services. This is in large part because American colleges and universities provide their students a different suite of services than do their Canadian or European counterparts, such as a greater number of residence and dining halls.
